Description

The Ancient City (Muang Boran) is a large open-air museum in Samut Prakan that brings together Thailand's history, architecture, arts, culture, and traditional way of life in one extensive destination. The park is designed in the shape of a map of Thailand and divided into four major regions: the Northern, Northeastern, Central, and Southern regions. This unique concept allows visitors to explore the cultural diversity of Thailand within a single day.

Covering approximately 316 acres, The Ancient City features a large collection of architectural structures and historical reproductions. Many of the buildings were created based on extensive research into Thai history, archaeology, traditional arts, architecture, and local lifestyles. The main purpose of the museum is to preserve Thai cultural heritage and pass knowledge of Thai wisdom, art, and traditions on to future generations.

🏛️ Explore Thai Architecture Through Different Periods

One of the highlights of The Ancient City is its impressive collection of architectural reproductions and historically significant structures from different parts of Thailand. Visitors can see landmarks such as Sanphet Prasat Palace, Dusit Maha Prasat Palace, the Wihan of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Phimai Sanctuary, Phanom Rung Sanctuary, Prang Sam Yod, and Phra That Phanom. Some structures were recreated based on historical evidence, while others preserve architectural elements and cultural heritage gathered from different locations.

🏯 Experience Traditional Thai Life

The Ancient City is more than a collection of historical buildings. It also recreates traditional houses, markets, floating markets, communities, and traditional lifestyles from different regions of Thailand. Visitors can explore attractions such as the Old Market Town, Floating Market, Thai Hamlet from the Central Plains, and Northern Thai Village, offering a glimpse into how Thai communities lived, traded, and interacted in the past.

🌿 Beautiful Natural Surroundings

Alongside its architecture and cultural attractions, The Ancient City features extensive green spaces, gardens, waterways, and peaceful landscapes. The natural surroundings have been designed to complement the architecture, creating a relaxing atmosphere for sightseeing, photography, and leisurely exploration.

🚲 Explore the Park at Your Own Pace

Because of its large size, visitors can choose different ways to explore The Ancient City. Facilities and activities are available to make traveling around the park more convenient, including bicycles, tram rides, and boat rides, subject to the attraction's current service conditions. Accommodation and activity areas are also available within the site.

📸 A Great Destination for History & Photography

With its diverse Thai architecture, beautiful gardens, waterways, and cultural attractions, The Ancient City is ideal for families, couples, groups of friends, international travelers, and anyone interested in Thai history and culture. It is also a popular destination for photography, with many impressive architectural backgrounds and scenic areas throughout the park.
